Here are some current needs:

Classroom/Grade-Level Liaisons: Commit to connecting your child’s grade to the PTA by attending regular PTA meetings and sharing what’s happening and what would be beneficial. Work to engage other families in your child’s grade in supporting the teacher(s) efforts. Time commitment can be as little as 2-3 hours a month.

Family Involvement Events: Have an idea for an event that would bring families to the school? Or something fun that kids will enjoy?  Why not volunteer to plan and host a family event?! In the past, the PTA has sponsored everything from Science Night (with staff from the Sciencenter coming to the school with fun, interactive exhibits) to family movies in the cafeteria. Also, watch Wednesday mailings from the school for information about events that you can help out with on the “day of.” Time commitment (host): about 5 hours; time commitment (event helper): 2 hours.

Fundraising: Help is needed to research options, develop a plan, organize distribution of information, collect money, and if necessary, arrange for distributing sales. Time commitment: about 20 hours spread over three to four weeks.

Standing PTA Committees: The work of PTA includes recruiting new officers and reviewing the budget and “the books” annually. For these activities, both a nominations committee and an audit committee are needed. These activities take effort, but are limited to March-May (nominations) or June-July (audit). Time commitment is about 5 hours (max), on one day or spread over just a few.

These events are always in need of volunteers. Please e-mail Marie Garland if you can help.

  • Book Fair: Help is needed to assist children in selecting appropriate books and in ringing up their purchases. We typically sponsor two Book Fairs - one in October and one in March. We need help manning the display in two hour shifts (if possible) on W/Th/F between 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Saturday between 10 and 4. And if you help, you get assistance in buying from the Book Sale!
  • Books for Birthdays helper (dates TBD; happens once per month)
  • Holiday Breakfast: Three volunteers needed to help sign family members in at the door, plus two or three folks to help with cooking and serving.  Like to shop? Helpers are also needed to gather supplies.
